BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220

Clamshells are popular among consumers because they are compact and less prone to damage. The fact they fold over ensures the screen and keyboard are protected most of the time, leaving just the back of the phone potentially exposed to scratches and scuffs. The flip is a quad-band GPRS and EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHZ) and has built-in 802.11 b and g Wi-Fi support, as well as Bluetooth. There is no 3G, but then the flip is all about being small and sleek, not big and powereful.

Unlike the Pearl, the 8220 runs the new 4.6 version of the BlackBerry OS, the same one used on the Bold, the Storm and the Curve 8900. The size of the 8220 is one of its strongest points. When the 8220 is closed, a big secondary display on the outside of the handset will show you details of incoming calls and messages. The rest of the time, it acts as a large, analog clock.

As with any Pearl, inputting on the 8220 takes a bit getting used  to. The keyboard is a mix of the familiar QWERTY layout and the numeric keypad of conventional mobile phones, but with two letters to every key. It can be confusing at first, but the same T9 predictive-text software found on most mobile phones ensures you are soon texting and writing e-mails at speed.

May I know whether the 8230 Pearl Flip is available in the market, especially Malaysia? the use of the 3G is more important than wifi, for me that is.

Yes, it’s available in Malaysia but I think they have very limited stocks.
